What is the Difference Between CSA Cement and Sulphoaluminate Cement?

The CSA cement series is a new type of cement mainly composed of calcium sulphoaluminate and dicalcium silicate minerals. It was independently researched and invented by the China Academy of Building Materials Science.

The series of CSA cement is widely used alone or together with a special admixture of ZB type CSA cement in emergency repair and construction projects, prefabricated components, GRC products, low-temperature construction projects, seawater corrosion resistance engineering, etc.

①With the characteristics of early-strength and high strength, the 3-day strength of CSA cement is equivalent to the 28-day strength of sulphoaluminate cement with the same label, which is suitable for emergency repair and construction projects;

② The strength of the CSA cement series comes into play fast, therefore, the application of the prefabricated components can save the energy cost of steaming.

③The PH value of low alkali aluminate cement hydration slurry is less than 10.5, which is especially suitable for glass fiber products (GRC);

④ With good frost resistance, it is widely used in low-temperature construction projects in winter;

⑤ The impermeability and seawater corrosion resistance of CSA cement are much better than those of sulphoaluminate cement, which is suitable for Marine construction projects;

⑥ With excellent performance such as special efficiency for the consolidation of hazardous waste, it is suitable for the curing treatment of hazardous and toxic waste.

CSA cement sets and hardens quickly. The 1-day strength can reach more than 80% of the highest strength, so it is mainly used for emergency construction projects, such as national defense, roads, and special emergency repair projects.

The hydration of CSA cement creates a lot of heat and releases the heat concentratedly. The heat of hydration released within 1 day is 70% to 80% of the total amount, which makes the internal temperature of concrete rise relatively high. CSA cement can set and harden quickly even in the -10℃ environment, so it can be used in winter construction projects.

Because there are no tricalcium aluminate and calcium hydroxide in CSA cement, and with its large density, the CSA cement has a strong resistance to sulfate corrosion even under ordinary hardening conditions.

CSA cement has high heat resistance. For example, the heat-resistant concrete can be produced with refractory coarse and fine aggregates, and it can be used in the environment of 1300℃~1400℃.

In addition, if CSA cement is mixed with sulphoaluminate cement or lime, it will not only lead to flash set but also make the concrete cracked or even damaged because of the formation of high alkaline hydrated calcium aluminate. Therefore, CSA cement shall not be mixed with lime or sulphoaluminate cement during construction, and shall not be used in contact with unhardened sulphoaluminate cement.
