Why is Foam Concrete Better Than Organic Thermal Insulation Materials

Organic thermal insulation materials are represented by polystyrene foam and polyurethane foam, which have been widely used in construction. Compared with these materials, foam concrete has great advantages in building insulation. These advantages determine that it is necessary and appropriate to replace organic thermal insulation materials with foamed concrete.

1. Fire protection

Foamed concrete uses cement as the main material, which is a safe non-combustible material. The fire resistance level is greater than 2 hours and can reach Class A fire protection standards, which can fully meet the fire protection requirements of any building. Building insulation with foam concrete will not cause fire at all.

What's more advantageous is that the cast-in-place foam concrete cast-in-place insulation wall we developed can completely wrap the steel structure in the foam concrete to protect the steel structure. Even if a fire occurs, the steel structure is not easy to deform and collapse.

2. Durability

The design life of a building is generally 50 to 100 years. Organic thermal insulation materials have a problem of being intolerant to aging, and it is difficult to have the same life span as buildings. At present, the design life of organic thermal insulation materials in relevant building thermal insulation codes is mostly 20-25 years. This means that the insulation layer and the building cannot have the same life span. At least 2 to 4 times of thermal insulation construction should be carried out for a building. This kind of repeated tossing about the building shortens the service life of the building. Because every construction will cause damage to the building.

Foamed concrete has a durability of more than 50 years and can last the same life as a building. One insulation construction can keep the building insulation for life, avoiding the insufficiency of multiple insulation constructions. The foam concrete roof insulation layer in Heilongjiang and other places in my country was a construction project under the guidance of experts from the former Soviet Union in the early 1950s. It has been intact for nearly 60 years and is still in use. This has fully proved the durability of foam concrete. Under the premise of standardized construction, the service life of high-quality foam concrete can reach 100 years, which is also suitable for key construction projects.

In addition, due to the poor integration of the external thermal insulation of the organic external wall and the wall, engineering accidents such as cracking and falling off are often caused. Not only the durability of the project cannot be guaranteed, but the falling objects pose a serious threat to people. The phenomenon of organic insulation layer falling off both at home and abroad.

Most of the foamed concrete is self-insulation of the wall, and there is no problem of the external insulation layer falling off. A small part of the external wall insulation is adopted, most of which are anchored or dry hanging, and are not easy to fall off. A very few use paste. Because the foam concrete and the wall are the same material, the bond is very strong and it is not easy to fall off.

3. Sound insulation

The sound insulation of organic insulation materials such as foam polystyrene board is poor. The speech on both sides of the foamed polystyrene wall with a thickness of 50mm core is clear and audible, while the speech on both sides of the wall with a foamed concrete wall of 50mm thick core is basically inaudible. The foamed polystyrene sandwich wall made a bang and empty when hit, while the foamed concrete sandwich wall didn't feel so loud and didn't feel empty when hit.

Foamed concrete becomes an excellent sound insulation material when the closed cell ratio is greater than 90%. Some developed western countries use foam concrete to produce sound insulation panels.

4. Non-toxic and harmless

Organic thermal insulation materials such as foamed polystyrene and foamed polyurethane release a large amount of harmful gas during production. The smell at the production site is choking, which causes serious air pollution and is harmful to the health of operators. In the early stage of use, there is still a residual odor. In the later period of use, its aging decomposition will still release harmful substances. Therefore, its production and use are not environmentally friendly. This does not consider the white pollution that it easily causes.

Foamed concrete is basically made of inorganic materials, no harmful substances are produced during production, and there is no peculiar smell at the production site. During use, it will not produce decomposition products and is green and environmentally friendly. From the perspective of building greening, it should also be the best choice for building insulation.

5. Not consuming a large amount of oil resources

In addition to the significance of reducing emissions, building energy conservation also has the significance of reducing my country's energy consumption and protecting the country's energy security. However, most of the organic thermal insulation materials such as polystyrene foam use petroleum as the starting material, which consumes a large amount of petroleum resources, and its application will aggravate my country's energy crisis. Although its use can save energy in buildings, the raw materials consume energy, which makes energy saving and energy consumption conflict, and loses the meaning of energy saving.

The raw material of foamed concrete is cement, not energy. Although the production of cement also has energy consumption, it is after all lower than the energy consumption of raw materials of foamed polystyrene and the total energy consumption of production.
